No finance degree needed โ each term explained simply, with a worked example.
An investor whose registered address is outside Kenya (individual, institution, or fund).
๐ Example: A pension fund in London buying SCOM shares on the NSE is a foreign investor.
Total value of shares that foreign investors bought that week.
๐ Example: Foreign investors bought KES 1.2B of NSE shares โ foreign buys = 1.2B.
Total value of shares that foreign investors sold that week.
๐ Example: Foreign investors sold KES 1.35B โ foreign sells = 1.35B.
Buys minus Sells. Positive = net inflow (foreigners were net buyers). Negative = net outflow (they sold more than they bought).
๐ Example: Buys 1.2B โ Sells 1.35B = Net โ150M โ foreign investors were net sellers.
The share of total weekly NSE trading value contributed by foreigners.
๐ Example: 60% participation โ foreigners were on one side of 60% of the trades by value.
Foreign flows heavily influence NSE large-caps (SCOM, EQTY, KCB, EABL). A week of heavy foreign buying often supports prices; heavy selling often pressures them.
๐ Example: If foreigners are consistently buying SCOM, that's usually price-supportive. Consistent selling of a stock is a headwind.
